Meet Our Primal Pros

Meet Primal's throwers competing to be the World Axe Throwing champion! They are true ambassadors of the sport and some of the most friendly, down-to-earth people around.

Tobias Macera

Tobias has been axe throwing since 2017 and has competed in every World Axe Throwing Championships since 2018, as well as dozens of tournaments across the US and Canada. What started as a hobby turned into a side job and is now a full-time career and passion. He is happily a part of the Primal Axe House family. "Throwing axes is profoundly satisfying," he often says, "but the community as a whole are truly the best folks I've had the pleasure of meeting."

Brandon Schell

Brandon is a Colorado native from Sterling and is a five-time regional hatchet champion and regional big axe champion. He qualified for both in the 2020 World Championships. Brandon is a CU-Denver graduate in electrical engineering and enjoys camping, fishing, and live music with his wife and daughter.

Benjamin Edginton

Benjamin is a Colorado native from Wheat Ridge. He started throwing in October 2017 and is the 2018 World Axe Throwing Champion! He holds 14 League Championships in hatchet and big axe. Benjamin is married and lives in Arvada.

Thaddius Shipley

Thaddius is a Colorado native from Broomfield and is a blacksmith, metal artist, and retired farrier. He has been throwing for less than a year and qualified for the 2020 World Championships in both hatchet and big axe. He enjoys overlanding (4x4 camping) with his wife and daughter.

Wesley Powell

Wes lives in Loveland and has been throwing axes for just over a year. Some of his accomplishments include first place duals, second place hatchet, and second place big axe at the Spring Regional Championship. He enjoys 3-Gun and long-range competitive shooting and spending time with his wife and French Bulldog.

Pete Belanger

Pete is originally from New Hampshire and is a 20-year military veteran serving two tours in Iraq and playing for the US Army hockey team. He started axe throwing upon moving to Colorado for work. He is a fierce competitor winning house leagues and placing in regional tournaments.

 

Sam Carter

Sam is from Raleigh, NC. He has been throwing since late 2017 and won the 2019 World Hatchet Championship in Tucson, AZ! He enjoys playing disc golf and hanging out with his 3 dogs.

 

Josh Eggert

Josh lives in Colorado Springs and has been throwing axes since 2019. He has had multiple tournament podiums and competed in the 2021 & 2022 World Championships. In addition to throwing axes, Josh is also an axe maker. He builds high-end custom throwing axes and is the 2023 WATL craftsman of the year. Josh also enjoys working on race cars and traveling with his wife and two kids.
